On the field he is Australia’s best batsman since Sir Donald Bradman, but off it Steve Smith is fast becoming a property mogul.

As of today’s Boxing Day test match his property empire stands at close to $10 million. According to CoreLogic, Smith has at least eight properties under his name or in various companies that he is the owner of.
He has taken a particular likening to the Balmain peninsula in Sydney’s inner west with 50 per cent of his properties located there. The remainder can be found in Marrickville, Coogee, San Souci and one on the outskirts of Toowoomba in Queensland.

The combined worth of Steve Smith’s portfolio according to CoreLogic is an impressive $9.235 million.
Smith’s first foray into the inner west property market was two months before he scored his maiden test century in 2013. Located on Illawarra Rd in Marrickville, the two-bedroom apartment cost Smith $635,000.
The off-the-plan unit near the Cooks River was last advertised for rent in 2017 for $650 per week.
Real Estate
Smith’s first inner west property was inside this Illawarra Rd unit block in Marrickville.
This Balmain East home was also renovated under his ownership. It was last rented out for $1990 per week.
After scoring the most runs at the 2015 Ashes in England, Smith made his first of many purchases on the Balmain peninsula with a knock down, rebuild in Balmain East.
Costing him $2 million, he constructed an ultra-luxury terrace home on a 196sqm block with views of Sydney Harbour.
This year’s rental listing ad described the home as having a “world-class residence with impeccable craftsmanship”.

The property also has city and Harbour Bridge views.
Apart from every window of the two-storey home enjoying city views, it also has smart technology to control most assets of the dwelling.
It was advertised this year with a $1990 per week rental price — a decrease from $2250 per week last year.
This apartment in the heart of Balmain village was purchased in 2016 for $25,000 less than the advertised guide.
In 2016 the then captain of the Australian Cricket Team purchased two more homes in Balmain, including a two-bedroom apartment in the heart of the village for $1.345 million.
The price paid for the apartment with stylish interiors, a home office and district views was some $25,000 less than the advertised guide.
It was last advertised for rent at the start of January 2018 for $895 per week.
Real Estate
Smith owns four homes on the Balmain peninsula.
Just a few months after the apartment purchase, Smith struck again in Balmain with a $1.41 million purchase of a semi that has been renovated extensively under his watch.
It finally came up for rent in the middle of last year for $1600 per week and the three-bedroom home is described as “thoughtfully appointed throughout, cutting edge, modern and seriously stylish”.
Smith is currently converting this blank canvas in Birchgrove into a duplex.
Construction started in early 2019.
Smith appears to have taken a liking to buying blank canvas properties and renovating them, with his fourth purchase on the Balmain peninsula, a derelict home in Birchgrove.
According to CoreLogic, it has yet to come up for rent since he paid $1.95 million for the dwelling in May 2017.
A DA was approved by the Inner West Council in January this year for the construction of a multi-dwelling residence worth around $1 million.
The new compound under construction is for two dwellings in a new two-storey complex.
Real Estate
Smith has lived inside this Coogee building, however CoreLogic reports he rented it out at the end of 2018.
Real Estate
It has ocean views.
Outside of the Sydney’s inner west, Smith’s main residence has been a luxury penthouse in Coogee that he purchased six months after his test debut in March 2011 for a cool $1.75 million.
The three-bedroom apartment has prized ocean views, a large outdoor terrace and is a short walk to the beach.
However despite it being his main pad, CoreLogic shows that it was listed for rent last year for $1300 per week.
