Gold Coast’s top 10 sales of 2019
CASHED-up buyers have not been scared off by the tough conditions that plagued the Gold Coast property market this year.
Here are the top 10 residential property sales for 2019, which total more than $82 million and include trophy homes, prime positions and future income sources.

1. 37-39 Brittanic Cres, Sovereign Islands
The palatial mega-mansion claimed the city’s top spot when it sold for $11 million in September.
A Sydney buyer snapped up the six-bedroom, eight-bathroom residence, which is on a 2168sq m north-facing double block.
It’s the epitome of opulence with soaring ceilings, feature lighting and luxury detailed finishes.
It also has a ‘Gold Lounge’ cinema room, wet bar and outdoor entertainment pavilion with a pool.
2. 67-69 Hedges Ave, Mermaid Beach
An interstate buyer splashed $10.3 million on the two Hedges Ave properties earlier this month, making it the second highest sale of the year.
The beachfront blocks belonged to drilling business veteran Peter Mitchell and his wife Dee.
Property records show the couple paid $200,000 for No. 67 in 1981 and $5 million for No. 69 in 2005.
They listed the properties earlier this year with the option of buying them separately or together.
3. 126 and 151 Commodore Drive, Paradise Waters
The neighbouring vacant blocks sold as a package for $9.4 million in November.
The Gold Coast buyer planned to build their dream home on the 3369sq m waterfront site at the end of Commodore Drive.
CoreLogic records show the parcel last sold for $9.2 million in 2016.
4. 7/3533 Main Beach Pde, Main Beach
The luxurious Main Beach penthouse was snapped up for $8.25 million in February and held the top spot until September.
The two-storey residence tops the boutique Sea building and was designed by acclaimed architect Bayden Goddard.
t has four-bedrooms and four-bathrooms as well as a rooftop pool.
Its sale broke multiple records, including being the third highest apartment sale and highest beachfront apartment sale on the Gold Coast.
5. 60 Sophie Ave, Broadbeach Waters
A family splashed $8.1 million on the waterfront mega-mansion in September after more than 500 days on the market.
The residence, known as The Palms, spans 1363sq m and has five bedrooms and six bathrooms.
Among its standout features are an Art Deco-inspired theatre with starlit ceiling, wine cellar, internal lift, eight-car underground garage and multiple terraces and balconies overlooking the manicured gardens, pool and Nerang River.
It was built by Dr Michael Kazacos over two years from 2008. He lived on the property since 1988, previously in another house.
6. 311 Monaco St, Broadbeach Waters
The six-bedroom mansion set the bar for eye-watering sales in 2019 when it changed hands for $7.5 million in January.
It features a fully-equipped gym, expansive formal and informal living areas, an outdoor kitchen, double pontoon and state-of-the-art technology throughout.
A local buyer outbid a string of others to claim the waterfront home.
It hit the market in August last year and attracted hundreds of house hunters with more than 300 inspections in the five months it was on the market.
7. 2-6 Riverbend Ave, Carrara
The riverfront house built by former motorcycle champion late Barry Sheene and wife Stephanie 30 years ago fetched $7.05 million in July.
Adrian Puljich, general manager of an over-50s lifestyle resort company, and wife Jessica bought the 1.2ha property.
The traditional English-style house has nine bedrooms and seven bathroom and includes a guest wing with a two-bedroom guest cottage on the grounds.
Mrs Sheene, whose two-time world 500c champion husband died of cancer in 2003, put the property on the market in April.
8. 1A Yacht St, Southport
The Hamptons-style home fetched $7 million under the hammer in June.
About 70 people gathered for the auction where bidding started at $4 million before climbing to $7 million when the hammer came down.
The impressive residence has a seemingly endless list of luxury features, including a formal pillared lounge, Quantum Quartz kitchen benchtops, a wine cellar, rumpus room with adjoining media room, waterfront pool and private beach with pontoon.
Property records show several agents tried their hand at selling the house after it hit the market in March last year.
9. 45 Knightsbridge Pde West, Sovereign Islands
The Sovereign Islands mansion fetched $6.98 million after spending almost 200 days on the market.
The buyers bought the six-bedroom, six bathroom house in March as a holiday home.
It spans four levels with multiple entertainment terraces, two pools, a theatre room and 10-car garage among its highlights.
It also has 24m of water frontage and panoramic Broadwater and Hinterland views.
10. 99 Hedges Ave, Mermaid Beach
The beachfront home on arguably the Gold Coast’s most illustrious street sold to a local buyer for $6.395 million in July.
Know locally as “the yellow house on the corner”, the Hamptons-style home was snapped up within weeks of hitting the market.
It was initially listed with a $6.495 million asking price.
The three-bedroom house had been a holiday home to 1984 Olympics super heavyweight gold medallist and South Australian tuna fisherman Dean Lukin for almost six years.
